When will COVID-19 travel restrictions end in the Netherlands?

Amsterdam has been released from its third lockdown since the pandemic outbreak. Nearly all restrictions across the Netherlands have been lifted. After a spike in Covid-19 cases, the Dutch government introduced a tight lockdown across the country in December 2020. The Netherlands introduced its first nighttime curfew since World War II, which led to violent protests in Amsterdam and other major cities. Due to an increase in coronavirus infection, the country’s most recent strict lockdown was implemented in December 2021. Amsterdam and the rest of the country are now seeking to return to normal.

Why visit the Netherlands?

Amsterdam’s historic canals, beautiful architecture, museums, and many cultural attractions are reasons Amsterdam is such a popular destination. Its cycling culture is another reason why Amsterdam is so famous.
Residents of the European Union are permitted to enter Amsterdam and the Netherlands for any reason.
Travelers from the EU/Schengen region, EU citizens who are arriving from outside the EU or residents of countries participating in the EU’s travel rules scheme, and EU citizens who have been living in the EU/Schengen zone no longer need to show proof of vaccination or evidence of recovery before entering.
Although the EU travel ban applies to all arrivals from these areas, exemptions are available for those from “safe” countries and those who have been fully vaccinated or can show evidence of recent Covid-19 recovery.A
Travelers from the EU and Schengen countries who fly to the Netherlands via plane will not require a health declaration.
Non-EU/Schengen visitors no longer have to submit a negative Covid-19 test upon arrival, as long as they are fully vaccinated.
The following countries are currently considered “safe” outside of the EU: Bahrain, Chile and, Colombia, Hong Kong.
The Netherlands does not allow anyone outside the EU/Schengen to enter at the moment who does not meet any of the requirements asked to be fulfilled by the government.
According to an official statement, all visitors should perform “self-tests” upon arrival in the Netherlands. This is also recommended for day five.

Covid-19 Restrictions in Netherlands

No longer are EU/Schengen-area travelers or travelers from destinations that participate in the EU travel rules program required to show proof of vaccination, warranty, or recovery before they can enter the Netherlands. Visitors from these areas are not subject to the EU travel ban. However, there are exceptions for those visiting from “safe” countries or those who have been fully vaccinated or can show evidence of recent recovery from Covid-19.
Non-EU/Schengen citizens who have been fully vaccinated are not required to submit a negative Covid-19 screening upon arrival. At the moment, Bahrain, Chile and, Colombia, Hong Kong. Indonesia, Kuwait. New Zealand. Peru. Qatar. Saudi Arabia. South Korea. Taiwan. The United Arab Emirates. Uruguay is considered safe. The Netherlands government recommends that all visitors to the country complete a self-test upon entry and on day five.

What is the Covid situation?

Last summer saw a spike in covid cases in the Netherlands, even though they were at a low level, due to the emergence and spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.
Initially, cases had been declining. However, they began to rise towards the end of 2018 and then continued to increase in early 2022.
There were close to 8.3million cases as of June 2nd, and more than 9,979 in just the past week. Covid has caused 22957 deaths. More than 72.4% have been fully vaccinated so far.

What can visitors look forward to?

Amsterdam is being reopened as restrictions in the Netherlands ease.
The reopening of bars, cafes, restaurants, and other non-essential shops has brought an end to the restrictions placed on how many guests can be accommodated in a home at one time.
The city’s museums, including Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, reopened in late January. On February 25, nightclubs opened again to revelers.
Most public venues, such as restaurants, museums, and cinemas, don’t require customers to present a coronavirus entry card before allowing them in.
Public transport, indoor public places, and airports no longer require masks.
