Yes, all Canadian citizens must apply for an ETIAS visa waiver Netherlands online once the new travel authorization program goes live in 2025. The newly updated ETIAS visa waiver will replace the Schengen zone’s current visa-free system for all short-term travel beginning in 2025. At the beginning, there will be a grace period of at least six months to ease the transition and help international travelers and border officials alike adapt to the new process.
All the same, it will be best if travelers go ahead and fill out the online ETIAS application form before departing for Europe once the new visa waiver becomes mandatory in 2025. Ideally, travelers should complete their electronic ETIAS applications at least 96 hours (four days) before departure. Doing so will allow plenty of time for the application to get processed and provide an opportunity to take care of any issues that may come up during the approval process.
The ETIAS application is an incredibly easy one when it comes to travel forms. All citizens from Canada will be required to submit their online application through the ETIAS Netherlands website before departing to the Netherlands or any other Schengen country in Europe. In most situations, it will take about 10 minutes or less to complete the entire application process. Applicants will be asked to submit their basic personal information, provide their current contact details, and respond to a set of security questions.
Yes. As soon as the new ETIAS visa waiver program launches in 2025, it will be an ETIAS requirement Netherlands for all international travelers to have a valid biometric passport when applying for ETIAS. Your passport must be biometric and machine-readable. It must also remain valid for a minimum of three months after your intended arrival date.
This is the case for all citizens from Canada, as well as those from the 59 other countries that are eligible for ETIAS. Please check out our home page for a full list of the countries eligible for the ETIAS visa waiver program.
The ETIAS application fee will cost €7 for all applicants aged 18 years old and up. There will be no fee for minors under 18 years old who are applying for an ETIAS visa waiver. The application fee must be paid online using a valid credit or debit card when you apply for your ETIAS travel approval. If the transaction doesn’t go through correctly, your ETIAS application Netherlands will get automatically placed on hold until successful payment of the application fee gets confirmed.
The new ETIAS visa waiver program will go live as of 2025. It will serve as a replacement for the current Schengen border control system. Initially, there will be a grace period of six months, or more if necessary, to help reduce any potential travel disruptions as both users and border agents alike get better acquainted with the new Schengen travel policies and procedures. Still, the electronic ETIAS application process is remarkably easy. Applicants will need to have their biometric passport, a valid email address for receiving notice of the approval or rejection of their application, sufficient funds to pay the ETIAS application fee, and access to a stable internet connection. There will also be an ETIAS mobile app compatible with Android and Apple devices, which will make it possible to complete the application form on a smartphone or tablet, too.
Yes. An approved ETIAS visa waiver will also be mandatory for children and minors traveling from Canada to the Netherlands and all other European countries in the Schengen zone. All travelers from the 60 ETIAS eligible countries, including children and minors, must have a valid ETIAS travel authorization in order to gain entry to any Schengen country from the time the new border security program goes live in 2025, and for all future international arrivals. A parent or a legal guardian must complete the online ETIAS application for children and minors at least 96 hours (four days) before their intended departure date. Please look on our homepage for the full list of all ETIAS eligible countries.
No. The ETIAS visa waiver will not authorize a foreign citizen to study or work during their stay in the Netherlands or any other Schengen country in Europe. ETIAS visa waiver is an electronic travel authorization that covers citizens from Canada and the 60 other eligible countries for transit, tourism activities, and business travel for up to 90 days within a single 180-day period. If you wish to study or work during your time in an ETIAS country, you must apply for the appropriate study or work visa through your home consulate.
All foreign nationals from the established list of 60 eligible countries will be required to submit an ETIAS application online prior to departing for any country in Europe’s Schengen zone. The application process may be different for applicants with a criminal record than for those who do not have any prior criminal convictions. These also include minor criminal offenses like driving under the influence (DUI), disorderly conduct, shoplifting, loitering, trespassing, etc.
However, it has not been made clear yet whether or not the new ETIAS visa waiver program will be available for international travelers with criminal records. Please get in touch with our customer service department for more information.
No. Citizens of countries in the Schengen area are not required to apply for an electronic ETIAS visa waiver because they would either be entering another ETIAS member country or returning to their own country. For example, if you are an Italian citizen traveling to the Netherlands, you would not be required to apply online for ETIAS since both of them are ETIAS countries.
However, if you are traveling with a Canadian, British, American, or Australian passport, for example, or you are a citizen of another country that qualifies for the ETIAS visa waiver program, then you will have to apply for ETIAS approval at least 96 hours (four days) before your intended departure date.
Please check out our homepage for a complete list of all 60 countries that qualify for the new ETIAS visa waiver program, along with a list of the 26 countries in the Schengen zone. It’s important to remember that the Schengen area is not the same as the European Union – not all Schengen countries are part of the European Union. Likewise, not all EU member countries participate in the Schengen Agreement.
The answer to this question will depend on what your nationalities are. If you happen to be a dual citizen of a Schengen country and another country, such as Belgium and Canada for example, then you won’t need to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver for the same reasons listed in the previous question. You should enter Europe using your Belgian passport. In contrast, suppose you are a dual citizen of two non-Schengen countries. As long as at least one of them is eligible for the ETIAS program, you can apply for a visa waiver under the passport of the eligible country. For example, a dual citizen of Australia and Thailand should apply for their ETIAS visa waiver under their Australian passport. In order to enter the Netherlands or any other Schengen country with a Thai passport, they would be required to apply for a Schengen Visa rather than an ETIAS travel authorization. Please reach out to one of the experts on our customer service team if you would like further clarification on this matter.
As soon as the new ETIAS travel authorization program goes live in 2025, citizens from Canada must get pre-approved for travel by completing the electronic ETIAS application form before leaving Canada and arriving in the Netherlands or any other country in Europe’s Schengen zone. The ETIAS application is completely online, so it is still possible for international travelers to apply for their ETIAS visa waiver from outside of their home country.
